We're excited to begin our 17th year of FCMF, which will be held July 26 - Aug. 4, 2024! Over the years, more than 360 students have studied and performed at least 205 pieces of music, under the direction of dozens of faculty members. We've hosted many guest ensembles and a variety of wonderful guest artists. Our performances have reached audiences at three Arkansas universities, churches, and other public venues.
We believe that performance is at the core of a musician's education. Students at the Faulkner Chamber Music Festival experience a rigorous yet supportive learning environment that culminates in numerous opportunities to perform for each other and for the public. To get the most out of these opportunities, students receive coachings for several hours each day, as well as participate in sessions that explore music from every angle. Our students learn from each other, and make friendships that last a lifetime. This camp is intended for students with at least three years of playing experience. Feel free to inquire about the camp's appropriateness.
The festival is now located at UA-Pulaski Tech in North Little Rock. Rehearsals, concerts, and educational activities take place in the Center for Humanities and Arts (CHARTS) on campus.
Five years ago, the Faulkner Chamber Music Festival merged with the Chamber Music Society of Little Rock, which now oversees all festival activities. The Chamber Music Society presents world-class artists who enrich cultural life in Arkansas by performing great works of chamber music and providing intensive educational and collaborative experiences for young musicians.
Faculty give students historical and musical foundations for understanding and preparing their performance pieces.
In learning repertoire and preparing for performance, students learn how to effectively express their ideas, collaborate, and compromise.
Masterclasses give ensembles a chance to perform and get instant feedback from faculty on how to improve their performance.
