The study and performance of chamber music presents a unique opportunity for musicians to practice their own instruments, while interacting with other musicians and discovering some of the greatest music ever written. Our goal is to provide an immersive environment for students, in which they can expand their knowledge of chamber music and deepen their musical experience as a whole.
2018 will be our 12th season at FCMF. During that time, more than 100 students have studied and performed more than 130 pieces of music, under the direction of 20 faculty members. We have hosted five guest ensembles, and an assortment of wonderful guest artists. Our performances have reached audiences at three universities in Arkansas, plus churches and other public venues. Our youngest student was eight years old, and recently we have incorporated college students as well.
In 2016, FCMF was merged into the Chamber Music Society of Little Rock, who now oversees all festival activities. CMSLR presents world-class artists who enrich cultural life in Arkansas by performing great works of chamber music and providing intensive educational and collaborative experiences for young musicians.
The Faulkner Chamber Music Festival is hosted by the University of Arkansas Little Rock. Rehearsals and coachings take place in the Fine Arts Building and performances and masterclasses are held in the building's Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall. The festival's mailing address and business center throughout the year is the Little Rock Violin Shop.
Faulkner Chamber Musc Festival is supported, in part, by the Arkansas Arts Council, an agency of the Department of Arkansas Heritage, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
At Little Rock Violin Shop, we know student success depends not only on having the right instrument, but also on having the right instruction. For this reason, we are proud to support FCMF in its mission to train the next generation of professional musicians and music lovers.
